Overview of Slingshot’s Finances
Overview of Revenue
Slingshot raises funds for two purposes to help achieve our mission.
Principal Investing
Principal Investors enable Slingshot’s mission by funding all of our programming and operational costs. Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to build an exceptional team to execute our mission and are able to conduct impact studies at no cost to the nonprofits.
Accelerate Impact Fund
Slingshot’s Accelerate Impact Fund ensures your philanthropy makes a difference. Each year 100 percent of the funds raised are invested in the nonprofits that participate in an impact study. Slingshot does not charge a management fee because all of its operational costs are covered by its Principal Investors. The amount of funds allocated to each nonprofit is based on its effectiveness at fighting poverty, with larger amounts allocated to the most effective organizations. This approach ensures every dollar invested creates more than a dollar in poverty-fighting benefits, amplifying its impact.
Overview of Expenses
Slingshot’s cost structure mostly closely resembles that of a professional services organization (e.g. consulting firm, advisory firm, etc.).
People
Highly trained and skilled staff are required to conduct complex impact studies and perform rigorous research and analysis to measure poverty-fighting effectiveness. People costs comprise the majority of our expenses, with nearly all of these costs associated with our poverty-fighting programming and services. This category includes salaries, benefits, professional development, and associated expenses.
Office & Culture
The physical infrastructure to support our work and create the environment for our team members to successfully pursue our mission. This category includes office space and equipment, technology devices, and community building.
Marketing & External Relations
In order to influence poverty-fighting effectiveness, it is imperative that we disseminate the insights we develop to the community. This category includes digital and print communications, as well as events.
Fees & Subscriptions
Access to the tools and resources that enable our team to efficiently conduct our work and manage our organization. This category includes our proprietary data management system, research databases, and administrative services.
Professional Services
The costs associated with augmenting our team with third-party experts to enhance our work and accelerate our mission. This category includes support for communications and fundraising, as well strategic partnerships, such as our work with MDRC to conduct the MemWorks workforce development initiative.
