Research on reentry from the justiceprograms that have produced effective outcomes concludes that a more holistic approach is system required. Services associated with effective reentry programs include employment retention support, individualized mentoring, and mental health services.ComponentsIn conducting the benefit-cost analysis on several technical education programs, we identified of effectiveseveral components that produced significantly greater benefits for program graduates:technical training1) programs that are designed in partnership with relevant employers 2) apprenticeship models, programs and 3) models that include paid internships in the curriculum.PracticesThe strength of the relationship between a mentor and mentee is one of the most important associatedfactors associated with effective mentoring. Programs structured with weekly meetings and with effectiveopportunities to interact individually are more likely to generate close relationships. Other effective mentoringpractices include meeting three or four times per month for a period of at least 5 months, having programs flexibility on activities and locations, and providing training for the mentors.ComponentsMany schools struggle to effectively implement social and emotional learning (SEL). Compared of successfulto peers, students who received SEL programming demonstrate improved social and emotional SEL programsskills, attitudes, behavior, and academic performance. Successful programs incorporate four in schools important components: 1) a sequenced step-by-step training approach, 2) active forms of learning, 3) sufficient time spent on skill development, and 4) explicit learning goals.View more of Slingshots sector insights2023 Annual Report| 19'
